Slow Cooker Coca Cola Barbecue Chicken

???????????????????????????????Since U.S. Men’s soccer is playing against Germany today, I figured that it would be fitting to do a good ol’ American style meal for dinner.  In comes the Slow Cooker Coca Cola Barbecue Chicken recipe that I found on Pinterest, courtesy of Six Sisters’ Stuff website.  (Oo…  side note:  USA just scored again.  2-0 to Germany.  Yay!)

Just 5 ingredients!

Just 5 ingredients!

Since chicken wings were on sale yesterday at Coop Sihlcity Supermarkt for CHF 15 for 2.5 kg, I decided to use chicken wings instead of chicken breasts like the recipe called for.

I noticed that the chicken still looked a bit pale after cooking, so I took it out of the slow cooker and popped it in the oven at 200°C for  about 10 minutes.  This gave it some nice brown color and charred up the tops a bit.  I also noticed that the onions did not turn to mush, which was surprising.  They still had a bit of a crunch, so that was different.

This is a really simple recipe with no fuss.  Paired with some seasoned country cut potatoes, California mixed veggies, and the requisite Feldschlösschen beer, it’s the perfect meal for watching the game while cheering for my country.  It’s half-time, and we’re still leading 2-0.  U-S-A!  U-S-A!  🙂

And for your viewing pleasure, here’s the recipe, folks…

Slow Cooker Coca Cola Barbecue Chicken

  • 4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts  (I used about 1.5 kg of frozen chicken wings instead)
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 20-oz bottle of BBQ sauce (I used 2 260-g bottles Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce)
  • 1 can Coca Cola

  1. Peel onion and cut into quarters.  Cut lemon into quarters.  Place chicken in crock pot.  Place onion & lemon quarters on top.  Pour in all the BBQ sauce & the entire can of Coke.  Cover & cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
